"The Old Field Road"

There was a road as a boy I traveled; that took me places I had never known, and some I'll never forget.

On a quiet country day when the sun was warm, I could hear bobwhites, meadowlarks, and the purr of a tractor.

On a warm country night, I could hear katydids and bullfrogs, the lightning bugs filled the air, and the Whippoorwills would sing you to sleep.

On a fresh country spring day, I could smell fresh plowed earth, and the ditch banks and hillsides were covered with dogwoods, redbuds and wild plums.

On a crisp country fall day, I could smell the fresh picked cotton, and I could smell corn stalks, and the fresh cool air stung my nostrils, and chilled my face and ears.

I could see our pond, where the biggest fish were never caught. This road was for walking, thinking, singing and talking to yourself.

I could go far away from home and still was able to hear the sounds from my house.

I could have fine meals on this road, like biscuits and meat from the oven, green onions, cold string sweet potatoes and apples right from the tree.

I could take walks with those I loved.. I could be Roy Rogers, The Rifleman, The Lone Ranger, Tarzan, or Superman.. I could be anyone I wanted to be.

This same road that took me so many places, always took me home; and of all the roads I've traveled, it's still the place for me. That old road has long since been gone, But in my heart it will forever be.

Proverbs 10: 7 .. The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

There are so many things and times of yesterday to bring us down and cause deep feelings of grief.. That is the way the devil likes it.. However, to know Jesus Christ gives us the abundant life.. Sure life is full of trouble but with the abundant life, you see things of joy that you have never before truly experienced.. Today you are forming tomorrow's good old days.. The most terrible day can be blessed by God as He shares distinct smells, sounds, sights, tastes, music and much more.. A life full of pain can feel and share a smile when shared with God.. There is one in a home for the aged that will forever be bitter because of where they are and how their life has transpired.. There will be another in the next room that is a joy to visit.. They always have a story to tell and a smile to share.. The difference is one is surviving and the other is living the abundant life.. Don't let this world hold you down.. Today fly and fly high.. May God Really Bless You!. Keep Shining and Be As Good as You Can Be, and When You Have A Chance, You Pray For Me!.
